Identify Your Edition
The easiest way to identify your edition is by looking at the compute drawer – the backlit drawer containing the server nodes.
How to Identify
- Unlatch the front panel of the EDC case
- Locate the compute drawer (the backlit drawer with server nodes)
- Count the number of nodes you see
📦 NUC Edition (HR-EDC-4U-NUC)
What you'll see:
- 3 smaller compute nodes side by side
- Each node is compact NUC PRO form factor
- Nodes labeled 1, 2, 3
- Nodes sit in individual bays with lateral movement dampening

🔶 HR-01-2 Edition (HR-EDC-4U-HR-01-2)
What you'll see:
- 2 larger server nodes side by side
- Each node is full-depth HR-01 Edge Server
- Nodes labeled 1, 2
- Additional SFP+ ports visible on each node
- More robust server-style chassis
🔷 HR-01-4 Edition (HR-EDC-4U-HR-01-4) Coming Soon
What you'll see:
- 4 HR-01 server nodes in high-density configuration
- Nodes labeled 1, 2, 3, 4
- Maximum compute density
Still Not Sure?
If you can't easily see the nodes, you can also check:
Option 1: Product Label
- Look on the rear panel, below the PDU for the model number label
- Model will be: HR-EDC-4U-NUC, HR-EDC-4U-HR-01-2, or HR-EDC-4U-HR-01-4

Option 2: Packing Slip
- Check your shipping documentation
- The edition will be listed on the packing slip
Option 3: Purchase Order
- Reference your original purchase documentation
Safety & Compliance
Weight and Lifting
⚠️ The EDC weighs between 85-98 lbs depending on edition:
- NUC Edition: ~90 lbs
- HR-01-2 Edition: ~92 lbs (42 kg)
- HR-01-4 Edition: ~98 lbs (44 kg)
Safe Lifting Practices:
- Use proper two-person lifting technique for units over 50 lbs
- Lift with your legs, not your back
- Keep the load close to your body
- Get assistance if needed
- Use appropriate material handling equipment when available
Work Surface Load Limits
⚠️ TIPPING HAZARD - Exceeding weight limits or improper placement can cause the unit to tip over.
When using the optional bench and work surface configuration with lid deployments:
| Surface | Maximum Load | Critical Safety Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lid deployed as work surface | 8 lbs (3.6 kg) | Place items in CENTER of surface only |
| Lid deployed as bench seat | 220 lbs (100 kg) | SITTING ONLY - no standing |
Prevent Tipping:
- Keep all items centered on the work surface lid
- Never place items near edges
- Do not exceed 8 lbs on the work surface lid
- Be careful not to bump the side of the work surface lid with excessive force, as it can dettach it from the bench lid
- Ensure all legs are fully deployed and stable before use
- Place unit on level ground before deploying lids
Electrical Safety
Input Voltage Requirements:
- North America (ECP106): 100-120V AC, 50/60 Hz, 12A
- International (ECP106-INT): 200-240V AC, 50/60 Hz, 10A
Safety Requirements:
- Connect only to properly grounded outlets
- Verify you have the correct PDU model for your region (ECP106 or ECP106-INT)
- Verify voltage matches your local power supply before connecting
- Do not use extension cords unless rated for full system load
- Keep power cables clear of walkways and pinch points
Maximum Power Consumption Under Load:
- NUC Edition: ~600W
- HR-01-2 Edition: ~800W
- HR-01-4 Edition: ~1200W (estimated)
Transport and Handling
Before Moving The Unit:
- Power down your HCI cluster gracefully
- Remove all deployed legs and store them in the lids
- Disconnect and store all external cables and accessories
- Ensure nothing is loose inside the unit that could shift during transport
- Close and secure both lids with all latches engaged
During Transport:
- Secure the EDC in vehicle to prevent sliding or tipping
- Avoid sudden stops, sharp turns, or rough terrain when possible
- Do not stack many other items on top of the unit
- Protect from moisture, extreme temperatures, and impacts - while ruggedized, the unit is not designed for extreme abuse
Ventilation Requirements
Cooling is Critical for Reliable Operation:
- Maintain minimum 12 inches (30 cm) clearance at the rear (exhaust vents)
- Maintain minimum 6 inches (15 cm) clearance at the front (intake vents)
- Sides and top have no vents and require no specific clearance
- Do not block air intake or exhaust openings
- Keep unit away from heat sources (direct sunlight, heaters, etc.)
- Do not operate in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation
Warning Signs of Inadequate Cooling:
- Excessive fan noise or constant high-speed operation
- High temperature warnings
- Unexpected shutdowns or performance throttling
Off-Grid and Battery Systems
If connecting the EDC to an off-grid power system or battery backup:
⚠️ Battery Safety Warnings:
- Ensure inverter can handle full system load (see power consumption above)
- Use only pure sine wave inverters - modified sine wave may damage components
- Provide adequate battery capacity for runtime requirements
- Follow all battery manufacturer safety guidelines
- Ensure proper ventilation for battery systems
- Monitor battery voltage - low voltage can cause unexpected shutdowns
Recommended Setup:
- Size battery system for at least 2x the maximum power consumption
- Include surge protection and voltage regulation
- Test under load before deploying to field
